How we celebrated 4th of July in Kyuquot Sound Petroglyph Cove. Charley caught 2 rock fish and a lingcod for a fish fry. While cleaning the fish I stabbed Charley's thumb and had to suture it to stop the bleeding(he is just fine no big deal but you wouldn't know it). I went kayaking. A sea otter followed [...]

Desolation Sound

06 May 2013 | Tenedos Bay
Sara
It has been over 20 years that we have spent this much time reexploring Desolation Sound and I must say it is worth all the explanation marks I remember from our first trip. We of course have by chance hit a stretch of weather which has been warm and sunny not cold and down pours. Not to mention it being off season and very few boats. Places like Roscoe Bay, Melanie Cove and Tenedos during the summer always demand stern tie to shore to fit all the boats into this beautiful anchorages in contrast of us currently only boat in the anchorage. Highlights 1. Llanover Mountain hike 2200 foot elevation. Got our boat card in the rock cairn at the summit to add to the collection. Took over 2 hours up and I had a some sore knees on way down so 2 hours plus down. 2. Kayak of Black Lake trip 3. Kayak tour of Squirrel Cove including introduction by two geese parents their new borns and of course running the Squirrel Cove Rapids. all with Jan from MV Jeannie. 4. Day sailing between the anchorages 5. hasn't the weather been wonderful. We plan on continuing our re exploration for another few days which may turn into a week before continuing north. The Squirrel Cove Take Out is opening on the 11th which just may keep us here until the 12th.
