Dash (at the speed of 4 knots) for the wind
12 June 2018
The weather forecast this morning, and by now youâll have gathered that our daily routines are very weather report dependent has led to a course change due West.
We can download a new report at 8 am and 8 pm from PredictWind through the Iridium system. We can see that by sailing due West rather than further South direct towards Ponta Delgado as we were before, there is a chance of picking up some modest wind in a day or so. Given that we are marginal, very marginal on fuel, weâ appreciate some wind power and weâre here to sail. Weâre experimenting with different engine speeds to see how best to maximise our miles per gallon.
We enjoyed all to briefly the company of some dolphins so are keenly watching out for a repeat performance and the shearwaters are visiting from time to time. Itâs certainly a pleasure to see these birds out here and to marvel at their ability to survive so far from land.
Reports from Horta suggest that the centenary celebrations for Peter Cafe Sport are well under way and a good time awaits us. Jenny is busy organising a welcome for the OCC boats still able to get there. Canât wait.
