Day 2, Big Open Passage

10 June 2011 | North of Puerto Rico
Becca
We really have fond memories of Puerto Rico and that's just what it's gonna be for now, a superb memory. We can still see that lush, colorful, Spanish speaking, vibrant country, off our port bow, but it's getting fuzzy. It will have to be from an airplane the next time!

This is day 2 of the 4 day passage we have begun with South Caicos as a way-point until we see how we lie toward the wind, how tired we are and whether or not anything unexpected arises! We also realize that the weather sites are bang on accurate...NO WIND! The other big points worth mentioning, I think anyway, is that we have settled into the cadence of the sea, as rolly as she is, nothing has gone bang in the night, not a whale, not a container, nor any such frightening obstacle that right now is only in our (my) mind. The roar of the ocean undulating under our hull is like the earth breathing.

This is what I exclaimed @ 5:30a other than "it's your watch" ."Honey, you've got to see this"!!!!

Absolutely breathtaking and panorama shots do not one spec of justice to this sunrise!

Vessel Name: Altair
Vessel Make/Model: Tartan 34'
Hailing Port: Coconut Grove Sailing Club
Crew: Dudley Clark and Becky Butler
About: Dudley has owned this Tartan sloop and has been cruising on her since 1986. Becky joined the good sloop back in 2000 when we first started cruising together and he has been 'training' me ever since! I couldn't be happier! I've been sailing all my life, but cruising is a whole different fish!
Extra: This is the most extended cruise we've braved on this wonderful, old boat of ours which is planned to be about 2 years! We left Miami in late February of 2008 and want to get below the hurricane belt by the end of July! Ok, so it's July, 2011...we're close, but not home yet!
