Anchoring Out - Ft. Pierce to Hobe Sound

Low tide this morning is at 11AM and there is a bridge we need to passage that is within 15 minutes of our departure from Harbortown Marina in Ft Pierce. The bridge is 65' high and our mast is approx 64' high. So, we departed at 9:30 to move very slowly under the bridge.

A Nice Day - Canaveral FL to Fort Pierce FL

We departed Cape Marina at Canaveral FL at 7:30AM and transited the channel inlet to the ocean. We set the sails at 10AM with winds from the ESE at 10-15 MPH.Caribbean music is playing and we are feeling good in 80 degree temps. "Looking good Billy Ray - Feeling good Lewis."...That is a fun quote from [...]

U-Turn - Canaveral to Canaveral - Lesson Learned

We thought we would rest and recover from our BAM-BOOM-BANG night sail by sleeping in and taking our time today. The plan was a leisurly motor down the intracoastal and put 30 miles behind us.

Roller Coaster, BAM-POUND-BOOM! - Offshore to Cape Canaveral

It is still dark and we are standing watch. As winds become more south than north, it is making our sailing more difficult and driving us inland toward the coast. We have been sailing approx 6 to 10 miles offshore to avoid commercial traffic and maintain our final destination. Ideally, we should be 20-40 [...]

Preping Boat - Oriental NC

11 November 2011 | Oriental, NC
KG
Up with the sunrise today. Rude awakening with temps in the 30's. It sure is nice to have heat and air conditioning on the boat and we used both in one day. I thought that only happens in Minnesota.

We installed sails today. A slight problem with the Selden jib furler required first use of the bosuns chair to fix the problem. We were also fighting 15MPH winds but fortunately the winds were on our nose.

Continued to organize and prep boat. Met our paid skipper, Jim Nixon, who reviewed our float plan. He will here tomorrow to depart at 8AM. Eric's friends Jeff, Sandra, Preston and Rufus stopped by and we met for dinner at The Silos.

Looking forward to sailing tomorrow and we are excited. Winds should be favorable tomorrow but on the nose for several days after tomorrow. We still have some items to tend to but should be able to make an early departure.

We will probably motor to Beaufort then sail for two days past Frying Pan Shoals and end at Charleston SC. If winds are light we will end at Georgetown.

It is now 7PM and Eric and Doug are having a libation and cigar on the dock. I just realized I'm missing my daily rum ration so have to log off.

Checklist items accomplished today: Sails installed, organize boat, pump dinghy, install dinghy on davits, clean boat, top off H2O tanks, pump heads, inventory.
