We're Beached!
16 January 2008 | Bahia del Sol, El Salvador
Amy/ a Gorgeous Day!
I am sitting at the bar area of Hotel Bahia del Sol, and as I look to my right across the estuary, I see Sunshine, beached on the sandbar. We brought her over there about 10:00 this a.m. As the tide went out, Jim plus 2 of our cruiser friends, started scraping the bottom of barnacles, sea weed, etc. We plan on being in this location today and tomorrow, doing some bottom cleaning, applying anti-fowling, plus repairing the packing gland and locating and repairing a spot in the engine where oil was leaking, which those two have already been accomplished!! Yeah- something to claim done!
Two nights ago, we discussed and agreed upon a date to set sail. But at this time, are not ready to advertise that. But keep posted, we will let you know!
I don't have any here at the hotel with me, left the camera on the boat, but will post pictures next time of Sunshine being beached. The kids were all so excited to move- even though it was only about 200 yards! They thought it was cool! They also had a great time as the tide went down, getting down walking on the estuary and helping to scrape the bottom, and play on the sandbar.
Once we are done on the sandbar, we will anchor somewhere else in the estuary, nearby, but will not be going back on Santos' mooring. Now that our main engine is working better, there's no need to go back to and pay for a mooring. Progress, slow, but better than none, just hope we get all that needs done to make her ready to sail for when plan to . Jim still needs to get some of the details with the sails completed. Eventually we have plans to return her to a ketch rigged sailboat as she originally was, instead of sloop rigged like she is currently. But, I'm afraid, that's going to be quite a ways down the road, er, coast.
