Still, more work
05 April 2009 | Playita Anchorage Panama City
Amy/ 90, sunny, with a cool breeze
I'm not sure if I mentioned yet, that one of the unexpected "surprises" we found with Sunshine when we arrived was at least 1 of the spreaders on her was broken. (the t- bar that goes across the mast to help hold the lines in place). When we went to Panama City y-day, Jim got the wood for the new spreaders, we needed 2 of them, he climbed the mast earlier in the week to examine all 4 of them. The lumber yard also cut it to his specs, all he had to do today was round out & notch the outer end & curve the inner end that attaches to the mast with bolts. He also started splicing a new cable for our running backstay, one of the cables that runs from the top of the mast to the back deck to keep the front sail tight. I am still wiping down walls, ceilings, shelves, food lockers & the canned & packaged food that was salvagabe etc. today spent 6 hours nearly non-stop doing this- ugh! I'll be glad to get it done! Sunshine's looking so good, the only thing missing is our kids. Now that a majority of the work is done & she's livable again, I said to Jim this evening, "I wish the kids were here." We paused, entertained that idea for a brief moment, but realized it was nearly impossible & would put too much strain on all involved. And we've already put family out too much. This afternoon, some yahoo Frenchman in a 55' or so catamaran comes in to the anchorage & decides to anchor right in front of us, barely a boat length away! We are not too happy about this, but thankfully we aren't here much longer!
