Jim went right in to town again today, left @ 9:30, there's still some hard to find items he really feels we should have extras of. Fan belts, hard to find, the right oil filter, not that we're planning on using the engine much after the canal, but better be safe than sorry. He was hoping to be back w/ in about 3 hours, he got back at nearly 4:00. Said he & Roosevelt our driver, had to drive all over town to find the right oil filters. Got our day for our transit today- we will be going through the canal on Wednesday! I did more cleaning today.... only thing left to do is the 3 remaining bunks, after we get the stuff we stored in the bunks while we were gone, & put away somewhere else. We have 2 line handlers that will be arriving tomorrow night, Thomas & Olga are land lubbers, who have crewed on sailboats, getting from point A to point B, working their way to Europe. We offered to get them to Fl, but they don't have US visas, would have to get them here before we leave & it takes over a week to get one, but they really want to Island hop- can't say as I blame them! But they are going to be line handlers for us. Steve is our 3rd line handler, he is another curiser her in the anchorage & we still have yet to find a 4th. But they'll all need a place to sleep, even getting through the canal in 1 day, I doubt any one would want to be in Colon at dark to get to the bus station to get back to Panama City.
Once Jim got back he got ready to go up the mast partway to the lower spreaders & installed the new one. While he was getting the spreader ready, I hear "Holy Crap!" I said "What?!" Jim: "This whole thing, going through the canal, & heading North!" Amy:"It's just hitting you now?!" "Yeah, just ignore me, I got a lot on my mind." Amy- a bit under her breath, " I should of ignored you a long time ago!"
It's like one of those things, many of us have been there, you really want to do it, whatever "it" is for you, but it's a big deal, & you're scared as _ _ _ _ to do it! But you'll always wonder, "what if" if you don't.
Well, tomorrow we finish last minute stuff to get ready to transit!
