What we've been up to

10 March 2008 | Staniel Cay
Tracy
We have just kind of been taking a breather and taking some time to just chill out. We left Nassau and headed for Norman's Cay again. It's one of my favorite places. After reading the book The Turning Tide, it was interesting to explore the island and see parts of what used to be a huge cocaine operation, it's hard to believe it was once a thriving island.

We stayed at Norman's until we finally were out numbered by our garbage piles. We did get completely caught up on Bailey's school, and as of today we are actually a week ahead. I've been kind of a Hitler about getting caught up. School 7 days a week, 2 full lessons a day. I let her have the day off, two days ago, but I really want to keep at it. With days when we sail, or I'm seasick I can't do school and I don't want to get behind again. She's on such roll right now, I'm amazed!

Jeff and I did some cool snorkeling while at Norman's, no sharks this time. I found live sand dollars and became a sand dollar hunter for a few days. I didn't know sand dollars looked hairy and green when they were alive. Unfortunately, I like the shiny white ones so I killed them in bleach water...sand dollar slayer.

Bailey found a snail that she named Gary. You know, Gary the snail from Sponge Bob. It was a little frightening the day she was playing hide and seek with Gary. Alas, I think we've killed him too, but hide and seek is no different dead or alive as a snail so Gary is still part of the crew. I told her to find a hermit crab that we could put with him and name him Mr. Krabs from Sponge Bob. Next we'll have to kidnap a starfish so that we have Patrick too.

So as you can see we've really been doing nothing, but really enjoying ourselves. We just got back to Staniel Cay, the pig beach. It's just a quick stop and then it's off to Georgetown with stops along the way.

I know we've done some interesting things it's just been so long since we've had internet that there's too much info in my head and nothings coming to mind.

Zacky is doing great. He went for a swim on the beach at Normans and then had a nice shower from mom afterwards. He is losing his hearing lately though. We can motor up to the boat and get on before he knows we're there when his back is turned. If he see's coming he howls at us like we've been gone for years.

No time for pictures today, but we do have a ton to load when we have a better connection and I'm not using the Toshitba laptop. I hate this thing!

Hope all is well and can't wait to hear from more of you!

About: Jeff is the only one of us with real sailing experience. I did take some lessons when we moved on to the boat, but really I'm a beginner. Bailey of course is only 5 so her main duty is to entertain, and Zack is our resident snuggle puppy.
Extra: We set out with the goal of being able to sail for 3 to 5 years. Of course that depends on expenses, etc. We are home schooling Bailey with Calvert while we're underway and just trying to take life day by day.
