21 January 2011 | St. Martin (French Side)
St. Martin has been great, but we are ready to get outta here! Later this morning we will be pulling our hook after nearly a month in the Simpson Bay Lagoon. Our package from the States arrived Wednesday, freeing us to continue our journey.
While here we have visited the infamous airport beach where 747s zoom so close overhead they rattle your bones, we hiked Fort St. Louis, we indulged in too many baguettes, we took the $1.50 bus to Phillipsburg and reviewed many happy hours.
St. Martin is a neat place but very modern; much like the Virgins. Prices here have been extremely reasonable. The supermarkets are to die for! I bought some things that have no English at all on the label but look simply fabulous! The entire island is duty free and this is the place for boat parts. We did not have any major overhauls or big purchases to make but the two main chandleries offer discounts on top of their competitive pricing. And the spirits...Cheep!! Cheep!! Cheep!!
Yesterday we tied loose ends all day. From just after coffee we were busy. Our toilet has been misbehaving recently so we bit the bullet and disassembled the beast. Thankfully we were able to diagnose and remedy its ailment in just a few hours. Maxwell did water and diesel runs while dropping me off at the supermarket one last time. We are full to the brim on water, gas, diesel & food. We even hit up the book exchange at Lagoon Marina and traded all of the books we have read thus far.
We plan to catch the 9AM bridge out of the Lagoon and head South toward the islands in the clouds. Saba is the first on our list then on to St. Kitts.
Please enjoy our SmugMug gallery of
St. Martin. There you will find photos of our activities here. Even a photo of the Maltese Falcon that was anchored outside of the Lagoon for a few days a week or so ago.
