Spencer Spit State Park on Lopez Island, was a great place to anchor and relax for a few days after spending an arduous week in the boat yard. We anchored there for two nights and enjoyed smooth water and calm wind each night. The sand spit has a great sandy beach for landing the dinghy and the fire pits along the beach provided a great place to have a family campfire. We didn't have all the ingredients for smores, so we just roasted marshmallows and ate the chocolate. There is not much in the way of hiking in the park, but we did find a nice trail that led to a large picnic area. We played a quick impromptu game of pine cone baseball. We all had fun. Last night, we had our friends John, Marlene, and Joe over for dinner. We met them last week in the boat yard. They had just had their sailboat delivered and are now sailing it back up to Nanaimo, BC. It was great chow and excellent company. We all went to bed late.

This morning, we started to make our plans for the next few days. We are very cautious whenever we start making plans, because as soon as we do, God shows us His sense of humor. So, we try to just have an idea of what we would like to do and fully expect to do something else. Nonetheless, we needed to determine what we were going to do for the 4th of July weekend. After much heated debate, we decided we would go to Roche Harbor and anchor for the weekend. After a short motor, we set the hook in a very crowded anchorage. We found a good spot, but there must be 500 boats here. I guess they all had the same idea that we did. July is a very busy month for boating in the San Juans and it is one of the busiest holiday weekends of the year for aqua-enthusiasts. After settling down for a bit, we dinghy'd over to the marina/resort where we took a short walk around to admire the hugemongous (yes, that is a word) yachts and then went swimming in the heated pool. Afterwards, we picked up a couple things at the grocery. Although still in the 50's, the weather has been absolutely gorgeous today! The anchorage is calm but the wind us blowing just enough to spin the wind generator and give us a little free energy. The solar panels were already earning their keep by pumping out loads of free electrons for the batteries.

Everyone is in a good mood, and the boat seems to be operating well (knocking on wood as we speak). We will be here at least until Monday morning. Roche Harbor puts on a pretty good fireworks display, so we will enjoy those on Sunday night. Monday, we will move to a more secluded location where we can recover from the busy weekend and perhaps get some more boat maintenance done. We still have a head to rebuild (that's toilet for those of you who don't speak boat), some solar panels to move and rewire, and some other minor tasks to accomplish. There is always something to do.

Thank you to all our friends, family, and dedicated blog readers for your prayers and support. We miss you guys and hope you are enjoying our little adventure. The comments are great. We were excited to see so many responses to the "Snowflake Knot" blog. Knowing you guys are enjoying our musings is a great encouragement. Thanks for reading!
