Berry Islands: Heading East across the Bank there is a long passage which requires heading out before dawn so as not to arrive in pitch black. (The days seem to be real short with sun rising at around 06:00 and setting at 17:20). Crossing the Bank during darkness is not recommended because the navigational lights are not that reliable. The inoperable remains of the Northwest Channel light can only be seen during the day. It was destroyed by a jackass (motor) boater who used the actual position of the marker as his waypoint.
