The people of the Nassau celebrate their colorful history in many ways including exhibits, guided tours, and annual festivals. (big cruise ship stop along with nearby Paradise Island Atlantic Hotel Complex). Although their ancestors were brought there as slaves to work on the plantations, the sting of oppression seems to have vanished through the years along with the past.
Nassau is given a bad rap by most of the travel rags...but it is a fascinating place. We visited the Pompey Museum (by Unesco) special exhibit titled, Lest We Forget - The Triumph Over Slavery; British Built "Fort Fincastle" Dated 1793; The Queens Staircase (Carved out of Solid Limestone by slaves) Dated 1793, Magistrate's Court and some nice other scenery.
