Here we are in Santa Rosalia marina, it is a treat to be in a slip and have power, Wi-Fi and endless water. We arrived Saturday night and are planning to head out to the islands later today. As soon as we plugged in to the power box the kids went nuts with all the electronic toys. PlayStation, TV and all the PC were pluged in and charged. I took advantage of the power and made some ice with the ice maker and used the blender to whip up some margaritas. Ok I am guilty as charged but why not it was included in the slip rental. The cost for this funky little marina is 200 ps. That is about 16 dollars US. Most of the cruisers go to Fonatur which is 350 Pecos and that doesn't include power. Power is metered and is extra. Fonatur Marina is nice with new docks and a nice office but I will take down home funky any day.
The town of Santa Rosalia is an old mining town. The mine closed back in the 40s but the Mexican government is starting it back up and the town is coming alive once more. The town is getting a new face lift and is very busy with workers coming and going.
After we hang out at our next stop for a week we plan on heading across to San Carlos as soon as a weather window opens. Our next stop will be Isla de San Marcos. It is a small island were some of the mines are located. We are going to anchor in Sweet Pea cove. We heard it has very cool caves you can kyak or take your dingy in and explore. Also the diving is said to be fantastic. We passed the island on our way to Santa Rosalia so we have to explore it before heading across the Sea of Cortez.
We picked up a small spinnaker from a fellow cruiser, it will work perfect for the girls to sit in and fly off the boat when the wind fills the shoot. It is a lot of fun and yes it is another toy. Lew and I flew the spinnaker on our friend's boat in Hawaii. Lew's younger brother Bob went up in the air and had a blast. He was visiting when Lew was stationed in Pearl. Our friends had a J24 sailboat and we took him out for a nice sail and a little adventure. That was back in the 80s when our bodies were young and adventurous. We still are adventurous but just a little older. Ok we take longer to mend after a fun day but that is what a nice cold beer is for.
Our boat has so many toys on it; we are the fun boat at anchor. Everyone wants to join in. The weather is warming up and so is the water temperature. The water temp is 79* and the outside temps are in the high 80's to low 90's. As soon as we anchor and set the spinnaker chair up, I will have to take some photos of our attempted to relive our youth. I know the girls up in the air will be a real treat for them. But for now I have posted a photo of Bob back in Hawaii having a seat and flying away.
