Bahia de Banderas

We arrived in Bahia de Banderas around noon on Saturday it was a nice sail about 60% of the way. The other 40% was spent motoring with little to no wind. As we entered the bay the winds kicked up and gave us a nice push. Three humpback whales escorted us into the bay. We enjoyed the show as they played in the water. They are big but very graceful as they glided through the rollers. We found a nice spot to drop anchor and settle in. Our cruising friends on S/V Permanently Temporary, was having a dock party for Papillon so we wanted to surprise PT with our arrival. It was a surprise! It was nice seeing the gang back together.
The next day was the Seattle Seahawks Superbowl. We made reservations at the La Cruz yacht club to watch the big game. It was only 250 pesos for all you can eat and drink. You had a choice between beer and margaritas; of course we had the margaritas. They were not week either. One tequila, two tequila, three tequila, floor. Thank god we didn’t have to drive home. Rose drove the dingy back to the boat. Lew tried at first but he hit two red marker buoys on the way out so Rose took over. Mexico has such good tequila. We would ask what brand is that Tequila in the drink and the restaurants would just say no brand it comes in the barrel from the town of Tequila. This is the birth place of the drink tequila. Sounds like a day trip to Tequila is next on our sights to see.
The town of La Cruz d huanacaxtle or simply La Cruz is a much laid back community. Only a couple of small tienda’s for provisioning. The streets are all cobblestone and everyone is so friendly. Sunday market is a must do if you are ever in La Cruz. There is a sausage vender that has the best sausage sandwiches; the line is over half hour long. But the prize of this perfect sandwich is well worth the long wait line.
Rose has settled right into the community. She has been volunteering at the local spay and neuter clinic. She loves working with the animals in the recovery room. Her first day after volunteering she was so excited, she got to hear the heartbeats of the animal she was monitoring the vitals for. Very cool! Along with Rose, a couple of the other cruising kids also volunteered.
Yesterday we took a bus to Puerto Vallarta; it was a very adventures bus trip. The bus drivers here sure know how to drive. Scary! And remember all the streets are cobble stone so not only was it scary but very bumpy. I think a filling was knocked loose so now I have to find a good dentist. Puerto Vallarta is a complete opposite from La Cruz. It was very touristy and full of color. Flamboyant is more the word I am thinking. It was cool seeing the old mixed with the new. The old beautiful church of La Iglesia de Nuetra Senora de Guadalupe is nestled next to tattoo shops and new restaurants right off the Malecon. The day was a perfect day sight seeing. Don't worry I didn't get any new tattoo's mom.
