22 February 2016 | En Route Ko Lanta
Monday 22 February 2016
The Phi Phis are really cool which is why locusts of tourists are taken there every day by cruise boat, power boat and longtail; thousands of them; everywhere; jamming the small beaches, swimming everywhere and scaring fish and each other. Sleeping through the tumult is easy if you're used to noise and semi-deaf, but Jan, with bat-like hearing got no sleep. Plan to snorkel this morning before departing to Ko Lanta was tossed in the bin and off we scampered (getting a cruising boat to do that - not as easy as you might think).
Expecting gentle wind on the bow we got 20 kts. and better at a usable angle and fairly flew to destination. At 42 off apparent and not quite getting there, we motor-sailed the last bit, but it was a hell of a day. First ripsnorter like that in a long while. Good test for the just redone light (fixed window) caulking on downwind side. Incidentally, not that we were racing you understand, but we kicked catamaran butt.
Mobile data has expired, so we're off the grid until Malaysia, perhaps Friday. These little text droppings, however, can be transmitted by SSB. Lucky you.
