12 August 2018 | Passage to Chagos Day 2
Sunday 12 August 2018
Lots of motion in 2.5+ meter sea, but wind is blowing and we're making good time with reefed main and genoa. Last GRIB (Gibberish Replacing Informative Background) has been accurate so far. Perhaps not so predictive in a week when forecast low swallows the wind, but doesn't flatten the sea. A bit rainy and squally leaving Cocos, but now puffy clouds in blue sky. Probably haven't left poopy weather (highly technical meteorological term) behind, but we can hope.
Highly conjectural itinerary for IO crossing to Richard's Bay, SA: 18 July - 1 Aug Darwin to Cocos 8 Aug - 19 August Cocos to Chagos 2 Sep - 9 Sep Chagos to Rodrigues 23 Sep - 26 Sep Rodrigues to Mauritius 3 Oct - 5 Oct Mauritius to Reunion 12 Oct - 16 Oct Reunion to Ile St-marie 19 Oct - 22 Oct Ile St-marie to Nosy Be 29 Oct - 15 Nov Nosy Be to Richard's Bay with numerous stops along NW coast of Madagascar Christmas in Cape Town
Oddly everything seems to be operating normally and pilot berth remains dry - we're sprinkled with pixie dust. Of course we're on starboard tack keeping window higher so acid test will be when going on port in a few days. Autopilot working enthusiastically in big following sea without a hiccup. No problems with fridge. Averaging 6.5 to 7 knots. Life is good.
