Sea If
14 August 2018 | Passage to Chagos Day 4
Tuesday 14 August 2018
Finally got breeze last night. Directly behind, but high enough, above 20 true, to push us along at 7 to 8. Sea at four meters coming up from astern. Energetic. Could be with us for next day and a half then ease some until possibly Monday. A few showers over last three days with a bit of rain and extra wind.
Able to get connected from 0500 to 0700 last two mornings (UTC +6). Transmission slow and disconnections periodically, but have new weather. Every day a different pattern - you pays your money and you makes your plans. Heading direct Salomon Atoll, northern BIOT (British Indian Ocean Territory). Previous residents, all of whom were relocated against their wishes mostly to Mauritius with some to Seychelles and a few to UK, call it Chagos. If by some miracle weather remains as forecast expect to continue thus or slightly south until Saturday to avoid light winds north, then turn right to avoid strong winds and higher seas Monday. If wind stays strong (big if) and earth not destroyed to make way for an intra-galactic freeway (or did that already happen?) should be anchored off either Ile Takamaka or Ile Boddam a week from today. Stranger things have happened.
