We're here with crew from S. Africa and Switzerland delivering a Leopard cat from Uruguay to Fort Lauderdale, two hops, 3400 NM direct from here. We clear in and they clear out so we'll combine effort or rather piggyback off them. They have local phone service to contact Uber. Alternatively may use Jean Pierre at the marina to carry everyone around for 200 reais. Perhaps more efficient and fewer hassles with someone who knows the drill, speaks the language and has a vehicle. Immigration, customs and port captain are located in widely divergent locations.
- Later
Since offices are apparently open only from 1000 until 1200 we did immigration and customs, but it was noon and since port captain's lunch lasts to an indeterminate time we deferred until tomorrow morning.
When we first arrived, restaurant at marina had two menu items - pizza was excellent, burger was not. A bulletin board was set out today that also declares a steak and three types of soup. Scouting for more options. Trip to large supermarket is in offing tomorrow for ingredients to dine on boat.
No word from Rio rigger (nothing happens quickly here) and have found a way to get items shipped in without duty. Florida Rigging in line to get some business. All to be revealed in the fullness of time.
Erratum: Can't believe no one's called me on it, but in speaking of early sunset last Friday, 21 June, mentioned sun was at equinox. Oops. It's at solstice. So, he queried, since it's called summer solstice north of equator, is it called winter solstice down under? Yeah I know, the question keeps me awake at night too.
