Borrowed Car... "The Toaster"
Friday 17 June 2022
Absolutely, positively leaving tomorrow - snicker, chuckle, snort. Water maker parts, third set of different ones, are suppose to be on the way for installation today, but no matter, lots to do and no way to get it done by tomorrow afternoon. Must sail sufficiently early, whenever, to arrive at Kaena Point, where wind may come howling around the mountain, in daylight so we can make video of knockdown for Jan's Facebook.
We, the Turkey crew (did that come out right?), are in no hurry to leave the Sandwich Islands for cold and rain, but must get back on Anthem without excessive delay to supervise putting her back together and completing work before being thrown out of yard and/or country. Beginning is generally a prerequisite for this eventuality, but after a month has yet to occur.
- Later
A Propos that, with some twisting of UPS arm, above mentioned part is unconditionally guaranteed to arrive tomorrow morning with technician who is sure to make water maker operable. Uh huh, uh huh, OK! As one of us usually says when Jan asks if we remembered everything, "anything's possible". No matter, probably won't leave until at least Sunday due way lots left to do. Entire boat still looks like a tornado hit and our future beds in mid-cabin are full of multitudinous crap that will migrate to V-berth, where we currently sleep. No one has divulged why this arrangement was perpetrated, but a good reason is no doubt available in the unlikely event anyone should become curious enough to ask.
Computers, tablets, phones, Kindles, chart plotters and Iridiums have all been updated and tested so we're electronically go for launch... except water maker.
Saturday
Czech technician arrived afternoon and worked several hours, eventually installing motherboard, but not new controller that was paid for and didn't arrive, with nebulous results. Water was made (this is of course a misnomer as ocean liquid is, in fact, water, but is relieved of salt and other unfortunate substances that make it undrinkable). Further testing tomorrow may prove enlightening.
All major components have been shipped (as in put on the ship) and lashed down or unshipped and given away as appropriate. Deck looks like the warehouse scene from Indiana Jones. Same may be said for myriad small items littering every other available surface above and below deck which are not yet secured. Once underway, loose bits may pile up on leeward side of cabins in which case tacking could be quite a rambunctious affair. Nevertheless, it appears possible to depart Monday. Confidence runs rampant.
