Gloucester Harbor

31 July 2010
Left Provincetown Harbor at 7 am. Held an almost straight course for
Gloucester Harbor, Mass. Wind was North @ 15-18mph. We were going up wind swiftly @ almost 7 knots.

Arrived in Gloucester at about 2:30. No township moorings available. Anchored right outside the mooring field. Actually we were pretty close to the dinghy dock and the center of town. Not many attractive stores, a lot of empty stores. No dogs allowed in most of the stores we went in to except one, a beautiful furniture store on the corner, where the owner makes most of his own furniture.

Basically a fishing village that's not too eager for sailing tourists. This is where the Andrea Gail got lost at sea. There is a memorial statue for the lost sailors here in town. This is the place The Perfect Storm movie was about.

Not a port I would visit again. Even the Harbormaster wasn't friendly.
