Cloud Cover & Cool all Days
Yarmouth to Shelburne (69nm)
July 11th started out with an early departure. We got off the dock in Yarmouth by 06h20 with good visibility and no fog! We definitely are getting closer to home. Longs sleeves, rubber boots and wool sweaters for both!! Water temperature has gone from 20C to 14C in less than two days!
Went through narrow Schooner Passage on a falling tide with a 2-3 kts current pushing us right along (average speed 8 kts became 10-11 kts), perfect timing. However Cape Sable's timing, not so perfect - tide's turning creating strong rip-tides with 3-4 kts against us! Increased RPM to maintain 8 kts and pushed through. Along the way, wonderful sunny weather appeared but was short-lived. Cloud coverage was back with a big long ocean. Not a bad day. No one else on the water.
On arrival Terry scrubbed the hull a bit, then it was a walk around the small Town of Shelburne, followed by a light dinner at "Sea Dog Saloon" and finished with a social sippy at SYC with a Swiss couple (s/v "Similur)" who have been traveling the past 9 years & tonight at midnight they're Halifax bound.
