A Muddy Stairmaster

02 July 2011 | St. Paul, Grenada
We went on a hash today. Long time Arctic Tern blog followers will remember that: Hashing is an organized run or walk. Hashing began in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, in 1938, when a casual group of British colonial officials and expatriates, would meet after work on Monday evenings to run, following a paper trail, through the environs of Kuala Lumpur to get rid of the excesses of the previous weekend.
This hash started out uphill- a steep muddy uphill that reminded me of a Muddy Stairmaster. One of the rituals at a Hash is to find the folks who have new shoes and have them drink beer out of one of their shoes. In Trinidad they wait until the end of the Hash for this ceremony. This fellow was a very good sport about his initiation.
