What do I Miss?

I have often been asked what I miss from a land based life and the answer is: not much. When I really think about it I have to confess that I do miss having a garden, playing in the dirt and harvesting my own vegetables. The other day during yoga practice I though that I would love to have a yoga practice area that does not have a gritty floor with an assortment of insects an not have to move furniture before practice. I also remembered that when I taught yoga in the Copper Basin I always had to move furniture. If I were not out side I would not hear the chitter of nesting palm warblers or the cheeky call of bannaquits.
I certainly do not feel deprived of community; we have several close friends and although we don't always share the same anchorage, or even see each other for months, the friends are there and the reunions are wonderful.
I love living outside. I love to see the sunrises and sunsets. I thrive on the challenges that living on a boat presents. I love the practical compact and largely self-sufficient life style. We do most of our own maintenance on the boat and it feel good to solve our problems our selves.
