Day 2 from Morgantown to Troutman

We started the day with a lovely ride into the sunrise and at mile 13 we had THE HILL. It was short, just about two miles, but very steep, even steeper than yesterday. There were several walkers and lots of panting. I was passed and passed and few bikers. There was a guy behind me and it looked like he was going to pass, so I said, "Go ahead and pass, just let me know (since going up a 15% grade you might wobble right and left). To express his exhaustion he panted "if you heard my voice on your phone you would hang up''. It took a minute to get it and I laughed into the rest stop. The rest stop was appreciated and we headed out through small towns and rolling hills. The second rest stop featured PB&J and home baked brownies and cookies. I had a sandwich bag and bagged a pbj and a brownie, for the next stop. An elderly lady in the middle of nowhere stood on the road and waved her American flag and blessed us. A small dog sat beside the road and wagged his tail at each of us.
The third and last rest stop for the day was at Murray’s Mill Historic site, which had a waterwheel in the creek below a small dam, which must have been a tributary of the Catawba River. The total mileage for the day was 67.8 and the last few miles were getting long. As we came into Troutman a small group of well wishers waved flags and cheered us on. You would think we where the Tour d'France. The policemen were out helping us with traffic. What a nice welcome.
