Day 4 Asheboro to Holly Springs

I love the routine of getting up before dawn packing my sleeping bag and thermorest, going to the Llama logistics trailer to get a cup of coffee and breaking down the tent and going to breakfast. Then after a good hot breakfast starting the day on the road while as the sun rises. The low sun highlights the spider webs on the road signs and bushes. Fresh legs start the nearly endless cycle of turning pedals for four to five hours.
Tonight I am writing the daily update from the comfort of Brooke's house. Our 76 mile ride ended Holly Springs, which is only 30 miles from Raleigh, so Brooke picked us up a took us home for home made meal and laundry service.
Today was a day of rolling hills through the Piedmont of North Carolina. One of our rest stops was in the town of Pittsboro and the ladies of the town put out a spread of home baked goods. I know they were hoping the thousand some bikers were going to stop for lunch, but I think most of us politely thanked the ladies and peddled on.
On one of the uphill stretches I found my self behind a very large (6' 5" and well over 270 pounds), man that I almost passed and then he flew down hill. I caught him on the uphill and passed him. I looked in my mirror and he was trying to draft me. I said pass if you want and he replied " I am trying to draft you, but can't much of a draft from you". I was just too small to cut the wind for a body his size.
We have been so fortunate to have sunny days. We keep hearing stories from veterans of the ride across North Carolina about the year that they peddled in the rain for four days, flooded campsites and meeting the tail of a hurricane in Wilmington.
For the record - my butt is a bit sore and it is just heavenly to get into camp and off the bike. Today was hump day- three more to go. In this photo Stan, Hunter and I are trying to get some blood to somewhere besides our legs.
