I See Dead People
01 April 2013 | Beaufort, NC
Spent the day exploring Beaufort. The highlight was a graveyard, of all things. The local museum provides an excellent walking tour with information on key people. Lots of interesting stories and history going back to 1756, all in a lovely setting beneath ancient oaks. It occupied us for several hours.
To our surprise and delight, the maritime museum has become the repository for the artifacts of the wreck of Blackbeard's flagship, Queen Anne's Revenge. Lots of cool information about pyrates (I like that old spelling), as well as shipbuilding, fishing and the environment.
After lunch and a little desk work, we took a long walk along the waterfront, where dozens of boats are anchored off the banks of Carrot Island and a marsh preserve. A younger and more-energetic version of me would have launched the dink and gone exploring on the preserve. Instead, I lit a cigar and Tammy opened a book.
Please don't judge us. (smile)
