"This is Ridiculous!"
04 April 2013 | wrightsville beach, NC
Well, the storm moved in early, and now we're pinned at anchor in the Wrightsville Beach anchorage. Rain, wind gusting over 30kts. No protection from this wind direction. We're not inclined to try to pull up the anchor and move the boat anywhere in these conditions. Like it or not, we'll ride out the storm here, on the hook. I'll let out another 50 feet of rode, and we'll hunker down, warm and dry belowdecks.
Tammy's cry of "This is ridiculous" is becoming a running joke on this cruise due to the frigid temperatures and lack of sunshine. Now this fast-moving storm. I thought it was March that came in like a lion. Still, spirits are good, and we're having fun. Aria is a cozy refuge.
Yesterday we had a FAST sail across Onslow Bay. We pulled out of Cape Lookout Bight at 0430, I put up the sails, and Aria took off at 7.2kts. Wow! Unfortunately, with all that NNE wind - 25kts - the seas grew choppy in a hurry, especially as we moved south down the fetch. We made the trip in 11 hours, a record, and didn't see a single boat the entire time. I wonder why? Cold and a bit beat up, we were happy to pass through the jetties of Masonboro Inlet and drop the hook, kerplunk, in one of our favorite NC anchorages.
Looks like we'll be enjoying it for an extra day this time around.
P.S. I uploaded some new pics to the album, "Spring Cruise to Beaufort, NC."
