A $5 Million View, and...
18 June 2013 | Skull Creek Anchorage, Hilton Head
Michael/Partly Sunny. Winds 12kts
...we didn't even need fuel to get here!
We're anchored on a side branch of Skull Creek. To the south is Hilton Head, with its swanky homes lined up side-by-side. To the north is marsh, and behind that, undeveloped Pinkney Island. What a view!
We kept the engine off and sailed nearly the entire way here from Beaufort, SC on gusty 15kts Westerlies. Tammy steered the whole way reading the catpaws on the water as though she were back on Upper Saranac Lake canoe-sailing with her Dad. I couldn't pry the wheel out of her hands. After reaching down the Beaufort River, we turned hard on the wind and tacked up Port Royal Sound. The scene was like the Abacos. Low land in all directions, wide protected water and fresh winds to get you around. What an absolutely gorgeous sailing ground.
We'll spend the night aboard then pick a destination tomorrow - either Harbor Town, Broad Creek or the May River. Don't try to pin me down; I'm on vacation!
