Two Weeks Out. Three Months Behind Schedule
14 February 2017 | West End, Bahamas
We leave West End this morning for the Abacos, having faced yet another delay. On Saturday we discovered that the starter motor had failed on our friends' boat. We decided to stay to see if we could help. Or maybe we stayed because we were enjoying West End so much we didn't feel like moving on. Whatever. We were supposed to have been in the Abacos in mid-November. That puts us three months behind on a trip that is only two weeks old! Gotta be some kind of record.
We used the extra time to explore West End, Freeport and Lucaya - and of course, get the new starter motor. It has all been a great adventure, the more so for being unplanned. We are saddened by the sorry state of West End. It has been devastated by two powerful storms: The real estate crash of 2007 and Hurricane Matthew last fall, which came through here as a Cat 4 spawning tornados. Pictured here are some of the scenes from the waterfront.
Fred and Wendy's boat is now working, so we leave this morning for Great Sale Cay.
