We jumped ship today and abandoned the SV Ariel to crew on the Mainship Trawler, Pelican Rose. The trip was short with the mission to fuel the diesel tanks in Lucaya. Captain Peter, at the helm, was pleased with our assistance with docking. First mate, ThaiLyn appreciated our rope handling. Ed wore the biggest smile as he watched the numbers roll by as the diesel fuel flowed into the tanks. Ed's grin widened at the announcement of the final cost. The joyful expression continued as he offered to share how much fuel the SV Ariel consumed on her trip across the Gulf Stream. Sitting on a white deck chair complimented by a navy and blue striped cushion, sipping a cocktail, watching the sunset, from the fly bridge of Pelican Rose was a treat worthy of a little diesel fuel. We returned to the life of a sailor ever grateful for our floating home!
The next ship we boarded today was a large sailing vessel whose prime was many years passed. She was reported to have participated in the filming of the movie "Pirates of the Caribbean II." After extensive exploration aboard we questioned the validity of the rumor but we had a grand time playing pirates. A gentleman in the Straw Market, Arthur, had a tale to weave about his experience as a member of the crew for the movie. He seemed more real, but whether he was a real pirate or not the day was packed with boats and sea stories. What more can a sailor ask from a day in Paradise?
