Last night and on into this morning, Tropical Storm HANNA has placed us under cloudy skies and continues to generate rain. Satellite images suggest that this represents the southeastern-most tendrils of the storm. Although this storm is currently moving southward, or should I say
barely moving (currently 2 mph) they continue to predict a northwest track up through the Bahamas this week.
So, our main focus now is IKE. Yesterday Tropical Storm IKE was named and the model predictions of his path are cause for grave concern.
Not only that, but NOAA forecasters seem to feel pretty confident in their track forecast. What is still uncertain is the intensity prediction. Currently, IKE has low sheer (good for development) but low ocean temps (bad for development). Once it passes into warmer waters, the sheer should also increase. Hopefully, these two elements will conspire to, at most, generate only 'gradual intensification' as predicted in this morning's forecast. Nevertheless, we could be looking into the eye of a hurricane by this weekend.
