In Search of Pink Sand Beaches

11 May 2009 | St George's Town, Bermuda
CURRENT LOCATION: Anchored in St George's Harbour, Bermuda

Since our trip to the big city, we have been boat bound. Winds through the harbor here quickly kick up tall pointy waves. These are sure to soak us in seconds if we attempt to go anywhere aboard Patience. (Sheryl proved this fact when she went to fill jerry jugs with water on Friday and wound up with more water in the dinghy than in the jugs.) Today the winds were finally forecast to moderate, so we decided to go for another island sojourn.

Our destination today was the south shore beaches ...

... so it was back on the bus. Although the day was overcast, the pink hues of the beaches meeting the incredible blue waters was a sight to behold.

Upon close inspection, you can see the pink contributions to the sand.

After a long stroll along the beach, we took a hike on the Bermuda Railway Trail. The Bermuda Railway operated from 1931 to 1948, and sections of where the track ran now remain as a walking trail.

We found a late lunch at the grocery store, then hopped a bus to ride back to St. George's. We are still waiting on an appropriate weather window. One may be forming on the horizon, so stay tuned for a report of our departure for the U.S.
