Kirk slept while we motored the snaky path back out to the Chesapeake Bay. Rain storms caught us as we motored into dawn's early light. Soon they cleared off and we raised the main. Kirk woke up and we motor-sailed through most of the day.
We had a three-hour window where we killed the engine and sailed. Kirk, a semi-professional videographer, took advantage of the relative silence to continue the interview sessions he had started yesterday. With the camera pointed at Sheryl or me, we talked about our lives these last two years. He intends to take the footage from this trip to create a video tribute to our time on the water.
Soon the light winds conspired to leave us ghosting along at less than 3 knots. We fired up the engine again and let OTTO steer us toward Solomons Island, our anchorage for the night.
Once we set our hook in the calm waters of Mill Creek, Kirk took the time to catch us up on some of the popular culture we had missed during our separation from the USA. Using his iPod and travel speakers we enjoyed a tour of music and video and trivial knowledge as only my friend Kirk can provide. Those of you reading this who know Kirk will know
exactly what I am talking about here.
