Athanor is an aluminum ketch, designed by Sylvestre Langevin, built in France in 1978. She is 48 feet LOA, cutter-rigged, with a fin keel, skeg-hung rudder, and round bilge, displacing 33,000 lbs.

base metals into gold. Importantly, the Athanor was self-tending and provided the slow steady heat needed by alchemists to undertake their work. In mythology, the Athanor provides the slow and steady heat -- the consistent flow of on-going joys and challenges -- that constitute the experiences of life and provide heat for the transformation of one’s soul.
The name is especially apt for this vessel, and for us as the current owners. The alloy metal used in her construction represents the transformation of several different metals into a superior boat-building material. Her stoutness provides the strength needed to voyage safely on the seas and even into the high latitudes filled with ice. With her sails trimmed, Athanor is easily balanced and will sail herself for miles and miles -- providing the vehicle for amazing adventures, learnings, and growth opportunities for her captain and crew.
