THAT'S TORN IT!
Well here we are in Oriental. We had to move marinas due to lack of water.(Don't ask!!!!). We found an amazing sailmaker who is as we speak is making us a new mainsail. Today was actually warm enough to wear shorts, almost Carribean!!!!!! Jon went up the mast to fix our backstay and we finally figured out how to make it easier on ourselves. All part of the steep learning curve we have found. Looking forward to some sailing once we have all our "canvas".
Our trip back up the ICW was long and cold and the tip of the iceberg, was being within site of our slip and finding ourselves not in the 7ft predicted, but in a ditch 3ft in all directions. After a couple of hours trying and waiting for a tow, we were underway again, heading back into the direction we had just come from hours earlier. We came in to a harbor in Oriental and weighed up our options. A hot shower is a wonderful thing!!!
We found a great new marina at Pecan Grove and are enjoying some down time (of sorts...not there is such a thing on a boat).
We even ventured into the Big City (New Bern) to watch Gran Torino (for those of you who haven't seen it yet...you should)
The past few weeks have definitely put things in perspective and I know for myself I have a new appreciation for my abilities and a healthy respect for the ocean.
