life in the fast lane
07 May 2017 | Tersane Adasi Gulf of Fethyie
Alan enjoying the weather
Here we find ourselves in Tersane Adasi in the beautiful gulf of Fethyie, sun on its way down behind the mountains. Best part of the day with sun having lost its heat.
Up bright?? and early this morning at 7:15 sharp...can i just say, crew not too thrilled with this new approach to the days procedures. After a quick fruit breakfast we headed off towards the gulf of Fethyie, sea like a mill pond, sun splitting the sky, not a bad place to be. A couple of hours on the engine ...and someone switched the fan on and positioned it just right to blow us all the way here with a touch of reefing as the fan was switched from 1 to 2 and then onto turbo....we positvely whizzed along, enjoying ourseves so much we passed the gulf and doubled back.
The day was pretty uneventful in terms of disasters and mayhem ....thank heaven!! We sailed past Dalaman airport and a couple of holiday villages along the way. Crew was hard at the sun tan lotion...you cannot keep a good woman down.
. 6 hours sail brings us here to a lovely old village on an island which in its day was a ship building mecca by all accounts , though you would not think it now as everything is overgrown with only a few remains hinting of its prosperous past.
Aurora continues to present us with a challenge or two, she can be a cantakerous old girl when she wants. Latest thing being a vibration that felt as though it promised to shake every nut and screw out of its proper place. Popping my Sherlock Holmes hat on and getting out my head torch, i proceeded to stick my head where i would prefer not to in order to find something that moved coming into contact with something it should not...its amazing where boat vibration can originate...on this occasion it being the stearing gear getting too close to the prop, gear moved 1 cm and vibration gone., a blessed release let me tell you.
Our night stop is one of the many Turkish places where you get facilities and somewhere to tie your boat as long as you eat in the restaurant. The 'chef' has just wandered past the back of the boat with a list of todays offerrings. Fish, chicken, lamb, lobster, octopus...a tricky decision to be made. i can see our dinner table as i type (see attached photo)
