CSY-44 Antigua - Hull 001

First Coat of Ablative Bottom Paint ON

Dean - Sunny Warm - Titusville BUBBLE
Monday Jan 7, 2013
Bottom Paint Day -- first Coat of Black ablative paint is now "on" the boat.
The forecast was for "rain", but again the Titusville "bubble" worked most of the day.
(Just a few drops of rain in late PM).
This is the first time that we've ever used any color other than RED.
I'm sure it's the fact that I was under the boat all day long, but it actually looks "bigger" with the black paint.... (again a question for Capt. Ron) :)

Granted.. .It's a fact that ALL boats look bigger from underneath... especially when you're sanding or painting above your head...

I was bit worried about the "blue tape" we have marking the NEW water line... (worried that after all this time - during the blister fix; the sanding; the barrier coating; and now the bottom painting.... The blue tape wouldn't come off, or it would rip into very shore pieces).

So, after finishing the first coat of bottom paint, I tried to remove a few chosen pieces of the blue tape.... Yeah!! All came off FINE! OK... I was going to take all of the tape off, and re-tape the boat... But I'll leave it for one more coat.

We still don't know if we'll like the look of the boat without the blue boot stripe, but the HULL will 'like" the increased height of the barrier coat, and bottom paint.

An ex-CSY-44 Owner stopped his car in the park behind AB this PM. He had just sold his CSY to a couple in JAX. The vessels name had been "HIGHBORNE LADY".
His name was Bill Madsen. We had a wonderful conversation about CSY's and cruising for about 1/2 hr.
He thought the hull number was somewhere in the 40's... but couldn't really remember.
Nice gentleman; Now lives here in Titusville.

I was sure that I'd have to order more bottom paint, but finally it did average out to what I figured... exactly 2 gallons per coat, including the prop.
