WED. 7 FEB 2018 -- Lazy day - Rust Stain clean up
Wow… today had great promise to be productive, but as Earl puts it “ There was an extreme lack of urgency on this boat today”…
SO… This morning was spent getting my BC (Buoyancy compensator) ready for diving on the propeller, and changing the zincs…on the prop. shaft… But basically that’s it…
But while I was out on the foredeck strapping the SCUBA tank onto my BC, Kathy was on SEEKER’s foredeck religiously bleaching and getting rid of every little rust stain on their boat… .HUMMMM
AS I looked around Autumn Borne… I was seeing all sorts of rust stains on the white fiberglass near the anchor windlass and anchor chain… HUMMM ?????
SO… in the PM that’s what I did… rub on a little Oxalic Acid, scrub, and flush off… WELL……….it’s now very WHITE up there on the bow… It’ll be a shame to drop and retrieve the anchors, and make it rust colored again…
The rest of the afternoon was spent visiting in the cockpit of SEEKER, or on the back “porch” of AB… NICE DAY!!!
I never did dive under the AB… Maybe tomorrow.
There might be a weather window to cross to the islands after next weekend… There seems to be a pattern shift in the weather… (we hope)… Lately there have been a few VERY SMALL windows… (less than 24 hours… and unless you have a very fast boat, or are crossing from somewhere like Miami (only 54 miles to Bimini)… we need about 3 days to make it to the Abacos (Green Turtle Cay).
We did hear from Pierre (s/v Troika) today… He thinks they’ve solved their “overheating” problem…. They found a collapsing hose in the coolant system… stiff when cold – but add heat… soft and collapsing!!! We hope he’s correct. He’s taken just about the whole rest of the engine apart, and re-assembled it….
