Monday 19 February 2018 -- Green Turtle Cay - Wrecking Tree Cruises Lunch
Today was one of the first days in the Bahamas when we didn't have to get up before the sunrise. BUT, guess what... We were up and about anyway.... So at 0630 I turned on the HF (high Frequency radio) (Single Side Band), and listened to the Abacos, and Bahamas Weather from Chris Parker... (Summary = Windy for the entire next week). Then we started projects like replacing the main potable water filter (whose life expectancy nearly matches the coffee (one month).
Then clean up of the forward head, and making it fit for use here in the islands...
I also took the wind BLADE off "NIGEL" (the mechanical steering gear on the stern)... as we'll be in this harbor for at least a week or 10 days.
I got in the dinghy and pulled my way to the bow, where I attached one more line to the mooring ball (just in case)... It's pretty windy out there... we're moving around quite a bit for a 20 Ton vessel.
The only thing that was solidly on the schedule for today was a "cruisers lunch at a restaurant in town called the "Wrecking TREE"... (I know I mentioned this place last year.... The history is such that the scoundrels of the past used to bring the spoils of wrecked ships there to the tree, that still remains sticking through the eating patio deck, to divide up the profits).
GREAT lunch with lots of attending boats....we took up about 2/3 of the seating in the restaurant.
Great Stories, and tales. These are acquaintances that will never be forgotten, because of the common thread of sailing, and staying healthy while LIVING on the water.
These cruisers (sometimes known as a "marauding band of seniors") then roamed through the town seeking ICE CREAM... It was found at Curry's Grocery store. This is no mean feat, either, because of the random power outages... lots of stores had semi-warm drinks, and NO ice cream or ice.
Then Dalmatian, and Autumn Borne retired to SEEKER for an early happy hour, and conversations....
We had all returned to our own boats when it was time for the sundown (1804 hours) CONCH blowing to begin.... Conch horns could be heard all over this harbor... NICE!!!
OK... SO that was the day... The wind is still whistling through the screens up in the cockpit....(we installed EVERY screen that we had, and had made this summer... front sides, and rear of the cockpit now, ALL have screens... NICE.
Now for a little music, or TV (stored shows, as there's no antenna type TV here at all ).
