Tuesday – 6 March 2018 -- Day of Projects on AB – over and UNDER
Today we finished cleaning the boat’s hatches, and ‘strata-glas’ (Bimini Windows)… The inside of the hatches never seem to get cleaned…That ended today. ;)
I also cleaned the “frowny face” (screen+strataglas) back window on the new bimini… you have to totally unzip the glass, and let it lay down inside the bimini… to get to the outside face…(usually against the screen). Looks great!
The BIG task for today was to finish the scraping of the barnacles, and growth from the bottom of the AB. Last time I wore a weight belt, and used the hooka rig to go under… Today, I was sitting on the starboard settee, staring at my BC (Buoyancy Compensator for SCUBA) and thought why can’t I use that, just WITHOUT the tank…. I can put two extra ten pound weights in the pockets; Not put in the “shed-able” weights; and I’d have complete control over my buoyancy…. !!!! (with a weight belt you either guess too light or too heavy… so you struggle to stay next to the propeller, or keel…etc.
WELL… This BC with the small extra weight was PERFECT… I literally just stood on the bottom, or floated along the keel until I was done. NICE!!!
I still used the HOOKA rig for AIR. Just for simplicity…. I do LIKE using the complete SCUBA rig for most things… i.e. Tank secured to the BC… Complete FREEDOM from the boat… With the HOOKA I left the tank lying on the port side deck…. So it gives me about 40 feet of ‘freedom’.
Anyway… that’s done…. So the afternoon was young…SO I RE-PAINTED the anchor chain at the 25; 50; and 75 foot marks. This is a project ONLY possible when you’re ON a Mooring… otherwise the chain is in the water.
Tomorrow, we’re expecting another weather event… high winds, and a T-storm in the PM, and into the night. WE’LL probably leave Treasure Cay on Friday with the TIDE….and sail down toward Man-O-War cay…
