Southport to Wrightsville Beach NC -- Tuesday
Today we waited for quite a while at the Marina (South Harbour Village), for the tides, and currents to change to at least a little in OUR favor (i.e. flood tide/current or at least slack).
So that was nice to have a nice, cooked breakfast, and do some boat projects (like changing the port-side RACOR fuel filter).
OUR time at Southport NC, and visiting with our cruising friends, Janet, and Bill Brown, was again GREAT!!! They are fantastic hosts. We had a little laundry, and a little shopping to be done, and they accommodated both tasks…
We had a delicious chicken dinner at the their home on Sunday night… They also invited our friends, Bunny and Pete, and Jenny.
Shopping on Monday turned out just a little different than we planned… Pete and Bunny had been extoling the virtues of this “smart TV” that they put on s/v AVALON in SC. So when Bill and I were at Walmart…. What do you know… there was this particular TV.. .on sale… HUMMM WELL… we’ve been talking about replacing the TV in the aft stateroom for a long time…. AND I’ve really grown to “hate” the VIZIO TV that was there…. (one reason is the proprietary nature of the controls, and the weird tuner controls, that receive TOTALLY DIFFERENT CHANNELS THAN THE “SAMSUNG” TV IN THE MAIN SALON, not 20 feet away).
Anyway… I bought the smart TV…. (first one we’ve ever had). Then… the funny part… This 32” TV is replacing a 19” TV…. SO…. The three of us (BILL, Pete, and me) put this TV in place… requiring a complete, and ON the FLY, redesign of the WALL bracket (in order to clear the deck above the TV).
BUT… we love it (so far)… and stayed up ‘til midnight watching movies, etc.
A big thankyou goes out to both Bill and Pete, for helping me put that big screen tv back there…, and getting it to ‘work’.
Last night we enjoyed a second night of great conversations at the home of Bill and Janet; had pizza, and refreshments, and even had time for some music (Jenny and I took turns on my Gibson guitar).
The trip up the Cape Fear River, Snow’s CUT, and through Carolina Beach… was an easy one today, although we didn’t wait quite long enough to reap the FULL benefit of the flood tide up the Cape Fear River… it wasn’t bad ( slack current ).
Tomorrow, the wind will not be conducive to hopping outside (Masonboro to Beaufort), so it’ll be another slog up the AICW…
More later.
