Wrightsville Beach to Mile Hammock Bay

WED. 9 May 2018 -- Wrightsville Beach to Mile Hammock Bay – Camp Lejeune
Early rise this morning, because we (AB and Avalon) were taking the long route to the Wrightsville Beach Bascule bridge… (that is all the way back to Shinns Channel, instead of the closer, BUT VERY SHOALED Mott’s Channel). All the literature described Mott’s channel as a disaster at low tide, which is where we were this AM.
So… we both pulled up anchor at 0700 and went all the way ‘round… and timed it out pretty well… (just a little “bridge dance”… waiting for the opening at 0800.
Starting that early, gives you a chance at a really good anchorage spot at Mile Hammock Bay, because you’re one of the first boats there… in the PM. (today we were the FIRST and SECOND boat into the bay for tonights anchorage).
WE fought the tides all day long….they were only “WITH” us for the last few miles.
The AB found ONE mud mound next to GREEN 167…. We should have been far enough away, BUT … I guess NOT!!! It was just a BUMP though… up and down… as we slid off the side of it…
We’re anchored at N34 33.041 W077 19.500 after 36.6 nm of travels.
Tomorrow, we may try to go past Beaufort NC, and north to CEDAR CREEK… about 45 nm (maybe a little longer milage).

Wonderful time at a Finger-Lakes wine tasting tour, organized by our daughter, Ruth.
The tour was followed by a B-day celebration, and dinner at a local restaurant.
Friends, and Relatives gathered from all over NY, and PA. GREAT TIME !!!
