Marina Activities - Summer 2018 July
14 July 2018
It’s been a while since I’ve written… Busy, I guess… I did post about the new (to us) dinghy. We bought an Achilles HB-315DX, including a 15 HP Mercury outboard, and the trailer. The gentleman, from whom we purchased these items also threw in a spare propeller, for the Mercury, bilge pump, and air pump… Then he let us use his ‘trailer lic. Plate’ to tow the new “George II” home to the marina.
So… it’s still sitting on the trailer this morning… I’ve been transferring lines, lifting chains, and ‘stuff’ from George I to the new dinghy. The one fly in the ointment was that I could not find my dinghy NUMBERING kit… to Paint the NY numbers on the hypalon. I ripped AB apart… NOPE… No luck finding that stupid KIT… SO I ordered another kit from Defender… (I love working with those folks…).
I ordered it Thursday AM.. it was here Friday… So that part is now done… painted, and Stickered (NYS).
Don’t know quite yet what we’ll do with the 1977 Evinrude outboard that has been our ‘stand-by or emergency outboard’… but now the thought is that the new 15 HP will be the “full time” power; and the present 15 HP will go on the stern pulpit as the spare. Ruth, and Matt will take the trailer, and see if they can modify it for hauling kayaks, and STUFF. So the only thing left to do is figure out what pasture George I goes to, after 18 years of great service.
Yesterday I waxed the entire hull of AB… and began to sand some of the teak for varnishing…. AB looks great… But rain is forecast for late today… SO………. Things may come to a halt for a few weeks (cottage time is coming quickly).
We also purchased new ‘Jack Lines’ for deck security… The old ones have begun to fray, from constant exposure to the sun, and weather…. NOT GOOD, when you’re depending on them to hold you to the boat IF you go OVERBOARD during a blow. SO… I’ll put them on today… (need to slightly modify the system… in that there’s ONE bow connection and the nylon tapes then go to each stern quarter…. (sort of an upside down “V”, as opposed to two individual lines that we have now…
Susan I had made a ‘deal’ long ago, that we don’t go outside the cockpit, while in the ocean, without “clipping ON”… especially if either of us is below deck. So far; so good.
There’s two separate parties going on today; neither of which we’re attending… (don’t know the birthday boy), and the other is at Hudson Yacht club (we’re not members there)… AND Sean has a wedding, located somewhere near Tannersville (up in the Catskills)… So this place is really QUIET !!!!!
Yesterday, things got exciting for a while… a kayaker flipped, after rounding the HON rock, and couldn’t get back in… the staff here, took the workboat out, and gave assistance; then a sailboat owner, stuck his hands in, under HIS mast, to poke an errant wire… WHILE the mast was coming down…and got the end of one finger chopped OFF… (that required Urgent care; and then the Hospital)…
OK….time to get moving… more later.
