FLOATING AGAIN - Cumberland Island GA

12 January 2019 | Cumberland Island GA
Dean -- Partly Cloudy - decent temps
12 January 2019 -- FLOATING (Yeah !!! ) – Cumberland Island
Yeah… we’re floating again!!! - After a few moments of Excitement at the “haul-out” slip… while launching AB… we made our way out of the North River… (very circuitous route BTW)…and over to Cumberland Island GA. We’ll wait here for SEEKER… (They are scheduled to launch at High Tide today – Saturday).
We were the only sailing vessel here at Cumberland Island, last night. One power vessel snuck in after dark, but is anchored way down at Sea Camp dock.
The ‘excitement’ I referred to above, while launching, yesterday, was the fact that our raw water impeller, that pumps sea water through the engine, “bit the dust”… with only two + blades out of about 10 pumping water…. It would pump sea water, but only if the engine was revved up…. NOT GOOD.
So…I asked Rocky, and Kevin… “ I have to change the impleller… do you want to lift me out of the well, while I do this, or just continue…. (thinking they could launch someone else, or pull a waiting boat)???…”
“NOPE… just do it they said”… calmly… “there’s plenty of water and time”…. Wow… I thought… OK… so I began the task at hand… (replaced the impeller in about 20 minutes… I do HATE those tiny Allen Head screws that secure the cover on the raw water pump…. ( Think I may invest in those English knurled screws… for the cover, so you can unscrew it without tools).
Anyway….once changed the raw water was spewing from the exhaust… (like IT SHOULD)… !!! and the engine was again running at it’s customary temperature….
I have quite the task list for today… 1) re-storing tools used yesterday… 2)shore power cords to be stored away… 3)Cleaning windows… (salt spray from yesterday – and yard dirt) etc.
Yesterday, after getting here to Cumberland Island.. I checked over the Generator… (Oil/Water/Belt) to make sure it was in working order… (even though the wind was really cranking the Wind Generator over… keeping batteries topped up, in the evening…)
I’ll start posting again to the blog, now, as we start to mosey on South… toward warmer weather… Seemed sort of pointless while we were “on the hard”… (YARD life is totally different… with continuous shore power / continuous WIFI service / and “neighbors”….to talk to… and party with.
We did have a nice “send off “ dinner with the neighbors…the other night… at “Pirates POINT”
OK………… I suppose we should get going on today’s task list… otherwise… One of the unmentioned tasks is to ready Autumn Borne for SEA…. Don’t know if the weather will cooperate, or SEEKER will want to go outside, but it pays to be READY, anyway…
