Autumn Borne Cruising

CSY-44 Antigua - Hull 001

19 January 2019 | VERO Beach FL
Saturday 19 Jan 2019
WE made it to Vero Beach yesterday… Another absolutely gorgeous day on the AICW… Sunny, just a touch of wind from the north… or NE… (just enough to keep a fores’l full and drawing…. And calm waters….
We made it to VERO in the mid-afternoon…. Our mooring assignment was a little more difficult… SEEMs the place is FULL…. And they are double and triple rafting anyone that is NOT a “full time” (annual) resident. BUT the good thing… is that Greg on the s/v “PaperBird” spoke up… and said we could raft with them…. (Similar size boat…).. the first choice we were given was a 32 footer with no one on board…. We would simply overpower them… with our 20 Ton weight…. So we opted for Paperbird and someone we knew… (We’ve crossed paths with Greg and Lynn, in so many locations; ST. Mary’s thanksgivings, Man-O-war cay in the Bahamas, etc. )
ONE thing bad about this location, is our position in the RAFT…. On the right side… putting our Generator output right next to Paperbird’s hull, and aft cabin…. 
We may ask for a mooring reassignment today or after the storm, this weekend…. So as not to ruin a friendship…. OUR batteries are OLD and will not stand an entire “evening and night, and then a long morning of discharge”… They need to be topped up right before bedtime…. And early in the AM….
The TV also “sucks” here… normal TV reception by antenna… but then it always has…. The trouble is that we’ve had absolutely GREAT TV reception of CBS almost all the way down the coast…. And in ST. Marys GA…. So we’ve been lulled into thinking that this was the NORM. 
Ah HA… slap slap… .back to reality !!! play guitar, or READ…. I can get Susan the channels she wants by using the internet modem, and CBS “ALL ACCESS”…. But that really sucks up data….
The marina WIFI is “there” but not strong enough, or fast enough to support this many boaters…
The ‘gossip’ is that the marina harbor master is retiring (as opposed to staying a little longer and being fired…. WOW…. I guess there’s been so MANY complaints about the management of the marina… the Town Council finally took action….. I don’t know what that “means” for the future of this marina….
Today… before the storm hits.. and the cold settles in…. we’ll try to go to the farmers market, and travel around the marina and connect with old friends that are STILL here…. Aaron, John, Pete, etc.
OK…time for breakfast, and get this stationary show on the road….. It WILL be nice not to MOVE for a while…. (hummmm Where is that TASK list???? )
