CSY-44 Antigua - Hull 001

Charleston Harbor to Fenwick Is. (SC Low country)

13 November 2019 | Fenwick Island on the South Edisto River
Dean Perry | COOL but SUNNY
WED. 13 NOV 2019 Charleston Harbor to Fenwick Island – SC Low Country
When we woke this AM in Charleston Harbor, it was COLD…but not as bad as expected.. Water was warm and kept the hull warm…. SO… the OIL Lamps, and Heater BUDDY did the trick… Warmed the boat right UP…
The traffic lockout on the WAPOO Bridge was over by the time we finished breakfast, and engine checks, etc. SO…. We tried to pull the hook and go…. WELL……………. The storm the previous day and evening… had twisted us around twice… and the BRIDLE hook (mantus) had quite the chain tangle… so I had to put a second HOOK on the chain BELOW the Mantus bridle hook and hoist the chain from the added hook, to get enough slack to pull the mantus bridle hook back to the deck… so I could untangle the mess of “hook and chain”…. TIME was ticking…. And we had only about 20 minutes NOW to make the Wapoo Bridge 1030 opening… (at the bottom of every hour except for traffic lockouts)….
Susan took off toward the bridge while I still had the anchor hanging OFF the roller… BUT IT WORKED… We made it to the BACK of the PACK going through the bridge at 1030 hours…YeAH !!
The ORIGINAL plan for today was to mosey down to Church Creek… only 18 nm - short day…
But when we got there (church Creek)… it seemed too early to quit… SO we went ON to Fenwick Island, just short of Beaufort SC… NICE anchorage just OFF the AICW.
We anchored at 1615 hours…. At N32 33.52 W 080 24.96 6 foot tides here… and it’s now dead LOW.
And infact we did the last few sections of the ICW at DEAD LOW…. Lots of mud walls on the sides of the AICW….Not a good feeling BUT we made it…without touching bottom…. (soft gooey mud anyway)…
OK… time for dinner… I think we may have “killed” out wind Generator yesterday, in the storm… I need to test some things…. OH WELL…
More later.
Just PAUSED to blow conch at sunset... and toast a wonderful DAY with RUM!!!
