CSY-44 Antigua - Hull 001

Fenwick Is. to Beaufort SC (south of mooring field)

14 November 2019 | South of Beaufort Mooring field (at anchor)
Dean Perry | Miserable COLD and windy
Thursday 14 NOV 2019 -- Fenwick Island (anchorage) to Beaufort SC (anchorage)
WELL…. This was a miserably cold and wet day…. Good for one thing only… PUTTING MILES under the KEEL !!!
We both “slept IN” this morning, where we were anchored at Fenwick Island…. (just a really WIDE place in the AICW)…. Nice anchorage… not much protection, but then not much was needed last night.
(This is the South Carolina Low country… and they mean it… the vegetation is so low it sometimes doesn’t even show on radar)… 
The voltage was extremely LOW this morning on Battery set #1… I think we’ve got a problem cropping up there…. May have to be addressed at Rocky’s (St. Mary’s GA)…
The batteries just aren’t holding their charge…. From the night before, even with the only thing drawing is the anchor light, refrigerator, and freezer.
We called the Beaufort SC City Marina this AM to see if any moorings were available…. Laura (operator) said she could not SEE the mooring field BUT they were “first come – first serve” anyway!!! Then I looked up Lady’s Island Marina… $84+ per night for AB…. HUMMMM NOT worth it…. Four lines, and power cord…. TOO cold to walk around town…
SO……………………………. We waited a bit (15 min.) at the Lady’s Island swing bridge… then looked at the FULL mooring field… and decided to ANCHOR to the South of the field…. In SAND/MUD (good holding BUT DEEP, and with quite the current).
We’re anchored at N32 25.59 W 080 40.99 after 23.8 NM of travel from Fenwick Island anchorage to here.
We seem stable (at anchor)… the only “heart Palpitation” I had when considering anchoring here is the depth (20 to 26 feet –with 6 foot tide), and the thought of the last time we anchored here the two boats to our BOW … dragged each other to SHORE… in a morning blow. NOT really a good thought!!!
(BTW.. after those two dragged ashore… Susan and I hurriedly pulled anchor and drove down to SKULL Creek for a nice nights sleep).
WIND is NOW “howling outside”…. But the OIL Lamps of AB are lit for and aft (salon and aft cabin)… and the Propane Heater is sitting here “at the READY”…. SO LIFE is GOOD… COLD but GOOD !!!!
Plenty of RUM available…

OK… time for NAP….
SAD about the CA shooting…. Guns that aren’t locked up, and available to kids are still a problem….
