CSY-44 Antigua - Hull 001

Skull Creek to The COOPER River - Staging for ocean HOP

18 November 2019 | Cooper River
Dean Perry | Sunny - CaLM conitions
We had a very short day, as far as moving south today…. We moved from SKULL creek, where we endured a LOT of REALLY BAD weather…. Gale force winds, torrential rain… etc. and WAVES (yes…. Even in skull creek…. 2 footers)….
We pulled anchor this AM before breakfast… but after first light… with some degree of difficulty… I keep a line forward with two HOOK type heads (one at each end… When the anchor chain comes up, and shows me a BRIDLE HOOK that’s wound around the chain… due to the fact that the wind has pushed the AB around the anchor for days, and knotted said chain…. I hook one end of this extra line on the chain…. BELOW the bridle hook, and then let out anchor chain, until I get enough freedom to work with the chain knot by pulling the anchor chain back on deck …. This pretty much eliminates the possibility of pinching my fingers in the chain IF the boat pulls tight on the anchor…. (The secondary hook is holding the boat).
Anyway. We pulled anchor in SKULL Creek and left.. .bound for The COOPER River…. Just above the Savannah River….Where we plan to exit to the ocean tomorrow… at Tybee Roads…
We did call Rocky and TERRY… at St. Mary’s boat Services to see if we could arrange an early Haulout… to allow us to change HOUSE batteries when Plugged in….a nd on the hard.
No room at the INN right now… BUT SOON.. .says Rocky Smith.
This afternoon I did take the time to tighten each and every connection of the batteries and charging system…. They were all tight…. I was hoping.. to find at least something… creating increased resistance… SO………….. I guess we’re coming down to the realization that these batteries (8 plus years old) have “had it”… and need to be put out to pasture… or whatever they do with old batteries.
SO…………….we’re all ready to HOP around GA tomorrow… or at the very least … hop down to St. Simons sound… (that’s IF we wimp out…) it’s 118 nm to Cumberland Island anchorage… or planned stop tomorrow…. We may wimp out… and stop at Lanier GA…. For the night… WE’LL SEE..
We’re anchored at N 32 08.79 W080 52.90

More Later.
