St. Catherines Sound to St. Mary's inlet (Cumberland Is.)

21 NOV 2019 -- Wahlberg Creek (st. Catherines sound) to Cumberland Island GA
Another great ocean hop... from Wahlberg Creek (OFF St. Catherines Sound) to the St. Mary's Inlet and ultimately to anchor at Cumberland Island....
The last part was, indeed, the most exciting part of the trip... The ocean was mild with the winds off the Beam, MILD Winds, and the waves usually less than 1 foot. NICE!! The trip, out and around, totaled 74 nautical miles... most done at SOG (speed over the ground) of around 7 knots... BUT.......... Unlike the ebb tide that HELPED us OUT of Saint Catherines sound... WE HAD to FIGHT our way into St. Mary's inlet... our SOG dropped from 7 to 4.0 knots and less... as we entered the inlet, and rock jettys.
So we "CRAWLED"into the inlet.... Just as the SUN SET !!! Another night time (dark time) anchorage... I guess we're getting pretty good at these things... (after 14 years)... but it's STILL not something to look forward to; everything SEEMS so "CLOSE" in the dark.... And in this seaway... (The ones the submarines use to get to KINGs BAY.... There's an over abundance of flashing lights (buoys), and Range markers, and the lights of Kingsbay... etc.
Our only saving grace, in this scenario, is that we've done that entrance, and the entrance into the Cumberland Island anchorage SO often (in the daylight).... We knew exactly how the TRACK should look going in... to avoid the shore, shoals, and buoys.... I did start a "track" on the iPad Aqua-Map, so I could see WHERE we'd been on the way in.... SEE PIC attached (if I can)....
We stopped and dropped the anchor about 1/8 mile from a completely DARK (no lights at ALL) sailing vessel.... (discovered HIM this AM)... HE just appeared as a "BLOB" on the radar screen... Most of the other boats in this anchorage had anchor lights ON... and were very FAR UP the anchorage (to the NORTH)...
One s/ V came in AFTER we did... and anchored to our stern....
SO............... anchor down... Lot's of CHAIN... as we anchored just off the channel to the WEST... in about 23 feet of water... this Morning at low tide, we're sitting in about 16+ feet.. 8 foot tides here... plus our swing toward shallows.
This morning we talked with our daughter, who shared some news about one of our HERD members, and one of our closest friends... GAR. Ostensibly, he lost strength in his limbs, and had trouble forming words and sentances... (of course "stroke" comes immediately to mind)... but the hospital tested for same... and think it's some sort of 'brain inflammation".... Along with some calcification... HUMMMM WE'LL have to wait and see what all this means..
I know this aging thing in the "golden years".... SUCKS.... WE should definitely schedule these GOLDEN years EARLIER in our lives !!!!!
SO..............we're planning on HAULING the boat out tomorrow (scheduled)... at high tide, at St. Marys boat services (Rocky's)... for some needed maintenance items.... The boat will stay there until the first week in January.... Hopefully, I'll have all the mechanical and electrical work done early...
WE're anchored at Cumberland Island GA - N 30 45.19 W081 28.60 after 74 nm of travel yesterday.
