Autumn Borne Cruising

CSY-44 Antigua - Hull 001

Rainy Saturday morning (Corrected insert )

01 February 2020

Saturday AM – 1 FEB 2020 -- Rainy morning…
Rained all night…. Still raining… I guess the locals say “we needed it”… Not so much for the cruisers point of view… BUT… it gives time for some INDOOR projects….
This morning, I waited for 0800 and for people moving around to start the Generator… but once started… the batteries were charged in about ½ hour… then I heated some fresh water (1500 watt electric water heater element) for dishes, and showers; then I made some fresh water with the watermaker… to keep it functioning….
Then While listening to the last of the VHF 68 radio net… finished breakfast… (spam/ eggs/ fried potatoes/ ½ bagel each….)
Today, I if I can, I’ll try to get the last of the 1099-INT / DIV amounts… and that’ll allow us to complete the 2019 taxes… That would be nice…
I’ve already got one project for the return dollars ($$)… a tiny fraction anyway…. I’d like to convert the forward head (toilet) into a composting head arrangement…. That would make AB nearly “free” of pump out station to pump out station travel…(here in the USA), and would be beneficial even in the Bahamas in some of the more isolated harbors…where we have to drop moorings each week, and go to sea to dump holding tanks… (Because of limited flushing currents in the harbors)…
Yesterday morning…I asked on the radio net if anyone in the harbor here, would talk to me about their ‘composting heads’…. Three folks came right back… and volunteered… we could take a look at their arrangements, and talk to them…about their “likes and dislikes”…. WELL………………… there weren’t many “dislikes”… which was wonderful…
It’s just a different way of doing things…. SO………..after a morning of touring, and talking, I’m more convinced than ever… that changing the V-berth unit over to composting is a good idea….
Last evening a bunch of cruisers got together on s/v Nightengale (Libby and Grant) for happy hour…(SEEKER (Kathy, and Earl); Dalmatian (Marylou and Tom); and AB )… I started the evening off by getting my foot caught in the main sheet traveler, while entering the cockpit, and ended up in Susan’s lap… That was interesting…. No injuries… no harm… except a little spilled beer on their cockpit cushions… they were gracious about it…
Wonderful evening… having all these friends so CLOSE !!!
Earl and Kathy informed us that their four stroke HONDA outboard had passed away in the engine HOSPITAL~!! RIP and that they purchased a new Tohatsu 8.8 HP outboard to power “Red Rover”…
SEEker is using a “lender” motor from Nelson (s/v Last Boat)… which has no transmission… when you start that motor OFF YOU GO….It starts IN GEAR… which lends itself to some very imaginative entrances, and exits from other boats and the dinghy dock.
